Degrees and Programs

Although acupuncture and massage therapy are so ancient they seem timeless, the current world-wide awakening to their value in human health makes them exciting fields to be in today.

Swedish Institute offers degree-granting programs in Massage Therapy and Acupuncture, and Professional Continuing Education classes. Our faculty consists of some of the most experienced practitioners and teachers in the field, many of whom have pioneered the changes taking place today.

Massage Therapy Program

Our Massage Therapy Program consists of 64 credit hours and leads to an Associate in Occupational Studies degree. Full-time students complete the program in 16 months and part-time students finish it in 32 months. The program fulfills New York State's professional educational requirements for licensure as a massage therapist.

Students who successfully complete our Acupuncture Program receive a Bachelor of Professional Studies/Master of Science degree in Acupuncture. The full-time program is completed in three years. The program fulfills New York State's professional educational requirements for acupuncture licensure.

Professional Continuing Education

The Professional Continuing Education department of Swedish Institute offers year-round courses for licensed massage therapists, licensed acupuncturists, personal trainers and certain other health care professionals. In these professions, practitioners take classes not only for the information they provide, but also for the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences with colleagues. The short courses and workshops offered through the school of Professional Continuing Education are for continuing education or avocational purposes and do not prepare students for a specific career objective. As such, they do not fall within the scope of the Swedish Institute accreditation agencies, Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC) or the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM).
